Well-
When the pivot lug on a Chinese milling machine (cast out of a mixture of floor sweepings and biscuit crumbs) breaks it presents an interesting problem.
The lug was drilled through either side of the pivot hole, threaded and then bolted tight through the back plate. A steel collar was then formed around the lug and secured by the two exposed bolts. The back plate, lug and collar were then brazed together.
The pivot holes were slightly enlarged and aligned, a new heavier steel pivot was cut and threaded either end and finally the enlarged lug was ground down to clear the back plate.
Modern casting ... (and this one was 40 years old!).
